Building an Intentional Community in Colombia
Building An Intentional Community in Colombia
A Vision for Resilience and Deep Connection
This is my dream.
The global crisis of social isolation, ecological destruction, and systemic failure demands a radical shift: we learn how to live with intentionality. This vision is establishment of a permanent and intentional Community in the Colombian highlands. The project combines proven methods for communication (such as the Scott Peck methodology) with legal and financial pragmatism to overcome the structural failures common in many communities.
The PH-Hybrid Financial Model: Permanent Affordability
We utilize the legally robust Colombian Propiedad Horizontal (PH) structure (private home ownership) but enforce a mission of permanent affordability:
Subsidized Equity: Capital Partners pay the full market price for their private lot and to secure the common community areas. This investment, made independently of the local price level, thus subsidizes access for Social Partners, who acquire their lot at the locally fair price. The distinction is based exclusively on the economic need for subsidization; national or international origin is irrelevant.
Permanent Price Cap: To prevent speculation, the maximum resale price (Original Investment + Inflation) is permanently codified as a legally binding restriction recorded in the public register. This strips the land of its speculative value.
Equitable Fees: The mandatory monthly contribution is equal for residents. Social Partners can fulfill this fee through certificated community labor (Sweat Equity) at an agreed-upon rate, ensuring true financial parity.
Democratic Governance: To neutralize financial dominance, we establish "One Lote, One Vote".
Economic Realism and Autonomy
We reject the fallacy of many communities relying on unstable external income sources (e.g., tourism). Our model is designed for long-term survival:
Primary Mission: Sovereignty: Core focus is maximum food sovereignty and self-production of necessary resources. Members prioritize essential labor (agriculture, building) over market activities.
Financial Contribution for Autonomy: Funds are necessary for external obligations like annual taxes and materials. Mandatory monthly contributions secure a necessary Reserve that ensures the Community can exercise its Right of First Refusal when a member exits.
Social Vision: The Aquarius Community
The Community built on deep, intentional friendship and chosen affinity, replacing the reliance on the nuclear family:
Friendship as Center: Members invest equal energy in friends as in romantic partners, creating a support network.
A Net of Support: Homes are intentionally close, ensuring constant interaction—a "large family"—committed to the process of true community.
Governance and Resilience
Role-Based Decisions: Clear roles are mandated to make decisions within their domain. Decisions by authorized roles or at regular meetings stand; failure to attend does not grant veto power.
Governance Details: The full documentation for governance and conflict resolution is emerging and will be linked soon.
Conclusion & The Necessary Experience
This is an opportunity for a high-impact investment in a resilient future. I am currently, as the founder of this project, actively seeking the core founding group. My personal commitment to this vision is so deep that I postponed my move to Colombia to receive intensive training in the Scott Peck method for communication.
The necessary experience for engaging in this deep commitment is crucial: I strongly recommend attending the Community Building Workshop 2026. This is a unique opportunity as an experienced senior facilitator from Europe will be present. Experience authentic communication and determine if this is your long-term values. Here, you can meet me and other like-minded individuals.
